3 Fun Traditions Mitchell Loved

Here are three fun traditions that started in our family because of Mitchie.

Hotel Transylvania

Hotel Transylvania is a tender story about an over-protective father who adores his daughter and is learning to cope with the loss of his beloved wife.

When Mitch saw this in October of 2012, he said, "Dad, let's watch that again next year."

Sadly Mitch didn't survive to see it again, so we watch it for him each year and try to remember the special sentiments that underpin the tender message of this movie.  A message that is very much at the heart of Mitch.

Mitch adored this movie. We highly recommend watching this with your kids ... or by yourself.

Homemade Chili

Each Halloween, Natalie makes homemade chili.  After a cold walk through the neighborhood, warm bowls of chili awaited to warm us from the inside out.

Here is the recipe Natalie uses each year:

Ingredients:
2 cans pinto beans
3 small cans of tomato sauce
3 small cans of water
1/2 lb ground meat
1/2 small onion
1 small can of green chilies
1 package of chili seasonings
1 TBS of chili powder
1 1/2 Kosher Salt - you can add more to taste

Directions
1. Peel and finely chop the onion.
2. In a saucepan, cook the beef and onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked.
3. In the crock pot, stir the chili powder, chili seasoning and tomato sauce and water.
4.  Combine the rest of the ingredients and let simmer for 1 hour then reduce to a low heat  stirring occasionally.

Hot Chocolate

It's simple, but hot chocolate was one of Mitchell's favorite treats.  It didn't matter what kind or where it came from, to Mitch, that hot chocolaty goodness was a sip of heaven.  We'll share his favorite recipe this Christmas holiday.  :)

One more thing ... Mitch always thought decorations made things taste better.

Things just taste better when there’s decorations around.”
